The SAHP is currently divided into three Bureaus, Highway Patrol, Criminal Investigations and Air Support. Each bureau is headed by a command Trooper with the rank of Chief who answers directly to the Deputy Director of the Highway Patrol.

The Highway Patrol Bureau is divided into two Divisions, Regular Patrol and Specialty Patrol.
Regular patrol is comprised of squads of Troopers that perform the basic patrol duties of an SAHP Trooper ,this includes taking calls for service and patrolling assigned areas, each squad is headed by a sergeant who answers directly to the Division Director. in the event that a sergeant is absent or unable to perform his or hers duties, the most senior trooper or designated trooper would become acting supervisor
Specialty Patrol is comprised of specialty squads, these include Motors, DUI enforcement, Commercial vehicle enforcement and lake patrol units, the basic mission and rank structure is identical to that of regular patrol, however these Troopers are trained to use different tools in order to achieve the same goal.
CID is the criminal investigation branch of the San Andreas Highway Patrol, Troopers assigned to CID are tasked with investigations that involve more advanced specialties that fall beyond the general scope of of the Highway Patrol Bureau.
